Art is a natural expression of my life and faith. Through my drawing, painting, sculpture, and performance art, I have always tried to explore creativity in unique and powerful ways. It is my desire that all who view my art will be intrigued and challenged to examine their hearts and their own spirituality.
I was born in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from Wingfield High School in 1976, I attended Hinds Jr. College and Mississippi State University where I received my BA in Art. After graduation I married my high school sweetheart, Twyla, and started my first full-time job for Gayfers department store as a Display Artist. I followed that career with a stint as Art Director for a local screen-printing company. From there I opened my own business named KBJ Studios.
In 1991, I moved my family to Fort Worth, TX to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary so I could prepare for my calling in ministry. After graduation in 1993, I accepted the position of Exhibit Designer for the North American Mission Board in Atlanta, GA where I served in that capacity for fourteen years.
In 2006, Twyla and I were commissioned as “Missionaries to the Arts Community of Atlanta” and we moved from the suburbs to downtown Atlanta. We quickly got involved in starting new churches. We soon became “church planters” and helped start two churches.
In August of 2013, we moved to Indianapolis, IN to start a church in the downtown cultural arts district. After getting that church organized and growing, we moved back to the Atlanta area in November of 2015 to return to our ministry to the creative community. God has led us to Marietta where we now reside and have opened New Creation Arts.
I am also President of Drawing to the Rock Ministries, Inc. I travel all over the world using my art to lead in visual worship.
Twyla and I are blessed with two wonderful daughters and sons- in- law who have given us four beautiful grandchildren!
